The band was originally founded in late 2003 by Lawyer Jacob Løbner (vocals) and Medical Doctor Mads Olsen (guitar). They were joined by a drummer, an additional guitarist and the Commercial Photographer Lars Reese (bass).
From 2004-2006 the band played bars and minor concert halls in Jutland, Denmark, mainly playing cover tracks from various famous hardrock bands. This was good fun, but playing their own music became more interesting and ambitions grew. This created a conflict of interests in the band. The drummer and a guitarist left the band, leaving Jacob, Mads and Lars to find replacements.
In mid 2006 the band changed its name to Malrun and initiated a major round of auditions. Several interesting musicians showed up, but surprisingly two young stars made the most impressive performance of them all (the guitarist Patrick Nybroe and the drummer Mikkel Johnsen). Patrick and Mikkel had the necessary talent, attitude and ambition to participate in the band's new beginning. With this new constellation the band was stronger than ever before despite the age difference between the three original members and the two newcomers. But they found that music tied them all together and age (and size:-) was not a matter at all!
In late 2006 and early 2007 Malrun digged in deep writing new material. Shortly thereafter they started playing several live gigs in Aarhus and other Danish cities, presenting the new material.

In April 2007 the band recorded their first EP "Longest Road to Rome" in Jailhouse Studios, Horsens, in cooperation with the skilled rock and metal producer Tommy Hansen.
At this time the bands’ two main webpages www.malrun.dk and www.myspace.com/malrundk were launched to back up the band’s tour and concerts in late 2007 and early 2008, during which Malrun also reached the semifinals in the talent competition “Emergenza” and had their radio debut on a German radio station.
Malrun spent the first couple of months in 2008 writing new material and in March/April 2008 Malrun entered the studio again. This time going for a more personal angle, a more dirty yet still melodic sound with a wide and general appeal, and a more “under-the-skin” approach both in sound and vision. Therefore Antfarm Studio was chosen. Tue Madsen from Antfarm Studio has produced numerous metal bands, hereunder Swedish metal kings “The Haunted”, and he was therefore the obvious choice when reaching for a sound with more “edge”. Tue and his assistant Jakob Olsen did the tracking, mixing and mastering of the brand new 4-track EP “Beyond” which can now be streamed or purchased on this webpage.
With the May 2008 release of the “Beyond” EP, Malrun intends to set all sails promoting the music by playing tons of gigs and working hard to make the cut by getting signed by a record label.
We look forward to seeing you all out there.
