Rock Shock Festival - Gaffa Article

As you may know we played at the new indoor Rock Shock Festival. Gaffa were there and published a nice article where they mentioned Malrun as one of the best bands :)
"Ud over de tre store headliners, Carpark North, Mercenary og The Rumour Said Fire (billedet), blev vi introduceret for genistreger fra eksempelvis århusianske Malrun, der spiller hardrock, som får Creed til at ligne små, underbydende musepiger, I Said So, der lyder som Artic Monkeys og Oasis i en noget mere inspireret indpakning, og Bagdad Beats, der uden tvivl leverede en af de mest underholdende koncerter på Rock Shock, med deres energiske og intelligente Balkan-rock.
You can see the whole article here (in danish) http://gaffa.dk/artikel/37183
By the way, the design and artwork for the new record and homepage/myspace is killing and it will hopefully be "up and running" soon.

Finished with recording now working on the artwork and homepage

We are now finished with the recording and mixing/mastering of our debut album.
The recordings were all done at Jacob Hansen Studios (The Storm, Volbeat, Duné osv) and we think the result is stunning!
It is a blend of Hard rock, pop and Metal combined with lots of melody, frustration and melancholy.
Right now we are planning how to release the debut, more infomation later...
Artwork for the record, new homepage and myspace design is top priority right now and we hope to have the new design up and running in feburary.
We did a nice photosession with the great Morten Rygaard (http://www.mortenrygaard.com/) - who, among many other things, is one of the primary photographers at Roskilde Festival.
There will be som exciting new shows in the next months so keep looking, maybe we hit a town near you ...

Malrun playing with STAIND (US)

Hi all,
We are extremely proud to announce that we’ve been chosen to play with no other than the legendary American kings of melancholic hardrock STAIND when they visit Denmark to play on Train in Aarhus on Tuesday 9th of June 2009.
It’s a great honor to be warming up the crowd for Staind themselves. We’ve been listening to their rock ballads and great hardrock tunes since we drank nothing but milk and couldn’t even lift a guitar ourselves. So sharing the stage with them now is truly a boy-dream coming true.
We hope that all dedicated Malrun fans (and rock fans in general) will venture to Train on 9th June to help us show everyone in the audience (and Staind themselves) that Danish hardrock is a force to be reckoned with and that Malrun belongs on the stage together with rock legends.
So go crazy and help us turn that night into a hardrocking party. For tickets and more info see www.train.dk

Debut Album

Hey all,
As you may know, Malrun is currently in the trenches working on new material for the debut album which will be recorded in September 09 in the studio of the reknowned metalproducer Jacob Hansen. The new songs are emerging from the ground and are taking shape. The different songs range from small-fragile-dark-melancholic-songs to rock-ballads-sort-of-songs to kick-ass-up-tempo hardrock. So the debut album will no doubt reflect the different sides and aspects of Malrun’s music which has always been a cross-breed of pop and metal. The main thing combining all the songs on the album are the pop-like melodies and the lyrical theme of the album which has most certainly become “dark emotions” as a sort of unintended concept, and the various lyrics seem to explore the corners of these dark emotions on a tour through landscapes of melancholy, frustration, fragility, hurt, guilt, cynicism, twisted sexuality, dualism etc. (with some integral optimism, hope and humor here and there as well, so don’t worry, you won’t be left all depressedJ). There a lot of underlying messages in the lyrics, its not just dark for the sake of being dark. So hopefully people will related to the words, coz’ we all experience our fair share of dark emotions from time to time don’t we, and maybe that can be turned into something positive as a learning process in this one-strike-life we’ve been given??
Well, that’s all for now folks, better end the chatting before we get all philosophical and shit;-)
We expect to test the new material in a couple of late spring or early summer concerts to see what works and what doesn’t work before we hit the studio. So stay tuned for more info…
Cheers,
Malrun

Review at Danishmetal.dk

Yeat another great review of "Beyond" has been published a couple of weeks ago at one of leading Danish music-webpages, DanishMetal.dk. Among other things, the reviewer calls the EP addictive and says that the songs are both mature, catchy and well-composed. Hope you guys agree with him :)

Permanent Manager

It´s a pleasure to announce that Malrun has just agreed a deal with manager/booker Steffen "Strange Ears" from Strange Ears Booking. We have cooperated with Steffen for quiet a while now, but figured that we might as well make a permanent deal since working with him is going so well. We´re looking forward to seeing what´ll come out of it. We hope you do to! :)

Full length album in 2009

Hello everybody!! How are you out there?
Well, we´ve just recieved a mail from Jacob Hansen confirming that Malrun is schedueled to record their first full length album Hansen´s studio in Ribe september 2009. Therefore, we are now heading into an intense period of songwriting untill summer next year when we are going to begin the pre-production. If everything falls into place we will have the new record out by fall/winter 2009.
As for the new material: The songs that are already (almost) written are a bit more heavy than the previous stuff. More updates on that as the songs are finished.
Well, we´re pretty fucking psyched about this and we sure hope some of you are too! :)

Demo of the month in Gaffa

Hey everybody!
"Beyond" has just gotten a 5/6 review in the biggest Danish music magazine Gaffa resulting in the EP beeing demo of the month in july! We´re extremely excited about this seeing as Gaffa is probably the most widespread and respected music magazine in Denmark.
The reviewer said among other things:
"This is hard rock that just screams for an arena at which the band can rock out!" [...] It all ends up reminding me of things like Nickelback and Creed, and I got the same experience of natural talent of writing here"
Well, that´s all for now! Stay heavy and see you around!

Band Of the Week

Hello out there!
The massive attention around Malrun at the Danish site Mymusic.dk has resultet in yet another great review of our new tunes. We´ve been chosen as "band of the week" at mymusic which is a result of both our great review of Beyond, the tracktesting of the four songs and the general attention that has escalated the last couple of weeks.
Go check it:

Tracktesting of Beyond

The four tunes of Beyond have all been "tracktestet" on the Danish webpage www.tracktesting.dk. The concept is to let 200-300 "random" people get to rate the tracks individually and write some kind of comment. All four tracks were rated high enough to be among the best songs of unsigned bands at the website. Along with that, the ratings were so good that the tunes will be up for purchase on different websites and probably also on Itunes within not very long. In addition to that, several record companies will recieve these test reports so this is a graet opportunity for us to get noticed by some important people! :) Well, I think that s it for now.
Cheers to everyone

Review of Beyond - 6/6 at Mymusic

Hey guys and gals!
We´re pretty f*cking psyched to announce that the biggest Danish music webpage www.mymusic.dk just finished an official review of "Beyond". It could not in any way have been better as we scored a perfect 6 out of 6 with only praising comments about the EP. I will try and translate the review within the coming days and post it on our Myspace so all of you "non-danes" have a chance to read it too ;-)

Review of CBYL at Mymusic

What´s up folks..
Check out the new review of "Caught Between Your Legs" at the following link:
http://www.mymusic.dk/redaktion/artikel.asp?id=2995
For those of you who doesn´t read Danish we´ve made a little translation! Enjoy!! :
Malrun serves brilliant melancholic hard rock/metal – they´ve teamed up with Tue Madsen and Jacob Hansen who are both responsible for some of Denmark´s best rock and metal productions. Caught Between Your Legs is well played and vocalist Jacob Loebner has a solid authoritarian voice which he uses most elegantly.
He doesn´t try to sing melodies that he can´t control and doesn´t let himself get carried away by the many notes and melodies that the guitars are playing but sticks to his own way of making the vocal work with the music.
However, I´m not as big a fan of guitar harmonies as I used to be and generally guitar solos don´t really do it for me at the time. However, I can´t really say that Malrun should do anything different, ´cause it sounds like the guys are very comfortable in their style and that is, ultimately, what´s most important – no matter what I or anybody else thinks.

Music video for Ambiguity

To the great surprise of the band, our webmaster has cut some left-over video material from the recordings TV2 recently did with Malrun and made an entire music video for Ambiguity, and we now make the video available on our homepage for your viewing pleasure.
The lyrics in Ambiguity focus on being emotionally torn in two, and on the internal frustration related to the almost manio-depressive mood shifts described in the song. The video plays with contrasts of light and dark, clean and messy, pure and unpure, and these contrasts complements the lyrics nicely.

The German review translated in English

Hey ! So I ve tried to translate the German review in English and it was quite difficult I think. So you have to excuse if there s any mistakes of some kind! Hope you enjoy it. Keep spreading the word! Mikkel // Malrun MALRUN - LONGEST ROAD TO ROME 2007 Denmark Throughout the last months I ve got many good CD s from Denmark, among which this 3-Track E.P. by Malrun was. Malrun are most recognizably compared with bands such as Creed, Alter Bridge Nickelback and they completely fulfil this honourable comparison. The Opener of "Longest Road to Rome", "Ambiguity" is a quite melancholic and very catchy modern rock song that would do great on radio. Singer Jacob has a good voice, both when singing high as well as low tones. Before getting to the third track "Dormant" which is definitely the hardest song of the EP, one has to listen through the rock ballad "Letters From Sophia" that begins with a beautiful piano intro. Throughout the whole 15 minutes long EP Malrun actually do everything right, and one can only anxiously look forward to a possible full length album. Both the sound, lyrics and the cover were also most definitely acceptable and rounded the history perfectly off. I hope helped you getting interested in this great band which all of you can get to know more about at : www.malrun.dk or www.myspace.com/malrunmusic

First official review

Hey everybody! Finally someone got to review our music on an official site. Check it out and feel free to post on here what you agree and disagree with! I posted both the link and the actual review. It´s German so for all of you non-germans I will try and translate it within few days.. Cheers!!

Fatter Eskil concert review

Hey everyone! This isn´t really to those of you who were present at the concert, because judging by your insane headbanging I asume you all had a great time! We definetly did! The concert really went perfectly! Although we completely forgot to get a mike for the bass-drum the sound couldn´t have been better - in fact, I don´t think it has ever been better. Adding to that, none of us have both played and performed that great before, and starting with the up-tempo, kind of heavy song "Fallen" (which only those of you who have seen us live know) the show got the ultimate start! As the venue got more and more filled with an excellent crowd it obviously got hotter and hotter in there making it harder to play ;-) - however, the bigger the crowd got the more we went crazy and the more we went for it! I guess we just want to say thank you to all the great people who were there to support us. We sure hope to se you all again, ´cause HELL were you all great to play for!?!?! Anyway, hope to be out there playing for you soon again. See you around! Mikkel/Malrun

Malrun feature on TV2

So Jacob sat one day at work, doing nothing as he always does and suddenly his phone rang. It was Skandinavisk Filmkompagni (Scandinavian Movie company) who heard something about a Malrun concert at Fatter Eskil 23´Th of June. They called to ask if we wanted to appear in this feature on nationwide television channel TV2 about weekend events in Aarhus and the answer was, of course, YES! Somehow, they got to listen to our music and apparently, they really liked it. The result of this will be a 1-2 minute feature with a mixture of a short music video of Ambiguity and an interview with the band. Be sure to check it out, and be sure not to miss the next concert at Fatter Eskil!

Studio Review

Hey all of you!
As of 25´Th of April we finally finished our first EP "Longest Road To Rome" after 5 days of intense, sweat dripping recording, mixing and mastering. We were under a lot of pressure as the schedule was rather ambitious (three days of recording, two days of mixing and mastering) and still we wanted for the result of the recording sessions to have the quality of a real studio album. Luckily for us, that was easily achieved as we got to work with the extremely competent producer Tommy Hansen who´s the owner of Jailhouse Studios where the EP was recorded. We really enjoyed working together with such talented a producer and the collaboration was for us nothing less than amazing! However, we finished the EP according to the schedule and from now on it´s all about getting the music out to people. We´re extremely excited about getting your opinion about the music so feel free to come with some feedback! Well, then there´s nothing left to say than - enjoy! See you out there!
